“The history of Michaił Hulin’s art-interventions into the public space and the emergence of “1+1=1” art-group (Michaił Hulin and Antanina Słabodćykava) dates back to 2005 and starts with a performance-action called Renaming of the Street (photo documentation). In fact, it was Haja Street in Minsk that had been renamed by Michaił Hulin and Antanina Słabodćykava. The street got its name after a Soviet military commander in times of the Civil war Haj Dzmitryjević Haj...By doing so, they have transformed the unknown into the known, or, in other words, extended the local to the global. The aim of the action was to declare that the painters belong to the world of art. Meanwhile, they have offered the citizens a tool or a gesture showing how a particular street of the city can be assigned as well as how an alienated city space can be transformed into their own space”.
