Majstrounia (Artistic Assotiation) was the first public organization Belarusian of youth, which in 1980 were united by the Belarusian national idea and the native language. Young and ambitious people, who later became well-known politicians, writers, publicists, musicians were as a large happy family. They organized celebration of national occasions, read together Belarusian poetry, made performances.

Siarhiej Dubaviec: «This story began on Christmas Day at the end of 1980. It was so hopeless and empty at the Central Square in Minsk, so cold and dark that a sudden the crowd of Christmas carolers, which appeared into the cold and dark emptiness looked like a stupid joke, because then nobody didn’t make a joke, or a failure in the unity of time and place, or a really miracle… Perhaps it was a small revolution, because until then nothing like that happened. But this revolution hadn’t a direct protest or opposition, or destruction. It was just born, a positive and not entirely consciously. After all, students from Majstrounia, which came to Central Square in Minsk, and could not understand until the end, what will be as a result in the end of their act».
