In Berlin, September 4 the cult center of alternative culture Tacheles was closed.  For the preservation of the center artists struggled for several years, but officers of justice have got keys to the building and sealed it. ‘Theft of Art undercover police’ called these action artists.

Contemporary Art Center Tacheles was formed in a former department store, built in the early XX century, in the Jewish quarter of Berlin, after the unification of Germany. There were artists’ studios, exhibition halls, where they sold their paintings. In addition, there were concerts, staged plays and showed movies. Artists from all over the world came to work and live in Tacheles.

In 1998, the government sold the building of Berlin Fundus-Gruppe approximately 2.7 million euros. Management of the company is going to build on the site of the art center residential and office buildings, but these plans have not been implemented, as the company went bankrupt. As a result, the building came into the possession of the bank HSH Nordbank, which demanded his release.

Several years Ales Rodzin, a Belarusian artist and founder the festival of alternative culture DACH, lived and worked hear. As he said, Tacheles was one of the last islands of freedom for artists and people who would like to resist modern capitalism in the World. Loss of ‘Tacheles’ is a sign of  destruction free people’s choosing.
