Fellows should be prepared to: 

— Give a public talk providing an overview on their artwork

— Participate in the A-I-R Laboratory and Solitude’s programme (seminars, meetings, study visits)

— Collaborate with A-I-R Laboratory and Solitude’s curators on preparing the research and conceptualizing a project. A-I-R

Laboratory offers:

— 3-month long residency, from September until November 2014

— individual living space connected with the working space

— grant of 3000 PLN / approx. 800 EUR

— return travel costs reimbursement

— research / production budget of 6000 PLN

— curatorial assistance, focused on research, and production

— an opportunity to present to the public or professional audience, in form of presentation, open studio and / or workshop

— customized programme and study visits in Warsaw and beyond

— providing an opportunity to establish professional and long-lasting contacts

— participation in A-I-R Laboratory’s on-going project Re-Directing: East that tries to on develop ideas and modes of action which provide an understanding of artistic practices and its social and political contexts in-between the Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Central Asia.

Akademie Schloss Solitude offers:

— 3-month long residency, from January until March 2015

— accommodation at the studio at the Akademie Schloss Solitude

— travel costs reimbursement

— monthly stipend of 1100 euro

— research / production budget of 2000 euro

— opportunity to present to the public (exhibition)

Selection will be based on the professional excellence of the applicant’s. Applicants must have sufficient knowledge of English to function independently and communicate with A-I-R Laboratory and Akademie Schloss Solitude staff and other residents.

About the Artists-In-Residence Laboratory

The A-I-R Laboratory has been organising an international residency programme at the Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw since 2002. We consider Warsaw to be an inspiring environment for international artists to develop their ideas while using the residency as a tool for creation and critical reflection. These residencies for artists and other art-related professionals provide an opportunity to develop projects in close dialogue with a curator, and are organised with respect to artistic work reaching beyond the art market or exhibition commissions. At present, the A-I-R Laboratory can host up to seven artists at one time in studios located within the CCA and in the adjacent Laboratory building, which was opened in 2010.

About the Akademie Schloss Solitude

Akademie Schloss Solitude is a public-law foundation that offers an interdisciplinary and international fellowship program for artists and scientists. Since 1990, the Akademie has supported artists in the disciplines of architecture, visual arts, performing arts, design, literature, music/sound and video/film/new media with residency and work fellowships. Since 2002, young people from the science and business sectors are also eligible for fellowships with the art, science & business program. An example of late-Baroque style, poised on a hill overlooking the cultural and industrial city of Stuttgart, the Akademie Schloss Solitude has developed into an important global network for the international art scene. In harmony with the castle’s location and history, Solitude is a retreat and «free zone» for art and life. But it also has a public face as an exhibition venue, innovative laboratory and arena for discourse. The Akademie’s fellows and guests use it as an artistic incubator, a projection screen; a place to make lasting connections or as an opportunity to realize a project without having to conform to conventions. The institution represents an open concept of art and intentionally allows its guests to influence and shape it.
